How to D.I.Y a Fountain

Want to turn one of our limestone troughs into a fountain? Have your own trough you want to convert? Or pot, stone, sculpture... You can fountain anything

  1. Scrub the inside of the pot quite firmly to remove any loose sediment and remove residue

2. Fill any large cracks or possible leaks with grout mix, sikaflex or any other suitable material you prefer

3. Seal the inside of the fountain, we like a clear rubber sealant (following instructions as listed on your chosen product).

4. Fill your fountain with water and leave for 24hrs, if you notice any leaks follow the steps above focusing on any spots where leaks were visible

4. Drill a hole for your pump cord to go through, we suggest masonry drill bits starting with a small bit and slowly increasing to widen the hole (the limestone troughs are a very soft material)

5. Thread cord for your pump through the hole, sealing around the cord with the same material used in step 2

5. Check that the cord hole is watertight

6. Attach your spout to your pump (our plumber attaches copper spouts using a Kempress compact tool which creates a rigid attachment), he then cuts the copper to length. Please note, we can send your pump with spout attached and cut to your desired length ready for installation (just select this option when purchasing the pump on our website). Alternatively, if you are installing a fountain with a single upright spout (as seen in imagery on this blog) we can supply fittings which allow you to simply push a copper spout into the pump.
(If you require a dual spout or are after a more complex fountain spout system this will require a rigid attachment. Speak to your local plumbing store re D.I.Y options, hire a professional or discuss your requirements with us so we can send your pump ready to go)

7. Plug everything in, fill your trough with water and you should have yourself a beautiful fountain

A few additional notes to consider:

- These pumps are incredibly low voltage, there are no requirements re burying of the power cord.
- The bottom of troughs are not flat, we recommend using stones to help adjust the pump and ensure it is level. We do not recommend adhering the pumps to the fountains in case you ever need to repair or replace your pump
